Bhatts pay writer Kapil Chopra Rs 20 lakh for stealing Jannat 2 script

Kapil Chopra is now compensated with credits, and gets twice the amount he had asked for

Script writer Kapil Chopra is a relieved man. The young writer had dragged the Bhatts to court a few months ago for allegedly stealing his script and making Jannat 2 based on his concept. Chopra has finally got his due as a court found that the story of Bhatt camp’s production Jannat 2 starring Emraan Hashmi, Randeep Hooda and Esha Gupta was similar to a script Kapil had written a year ago.

The writer had demanded that the makers should pay him Rs 10 lakh and give him due credit as the film’s writer. The Bhatts had defended their stand, but now after the court’s hearing, the makers have coughed up double the amount, Rs 20 lakh, and also have attributed him as the writer of the film. The film was released on May 4, so Kapil could not be given credit in the theatrical screenings. But now that the verdict is out, Kapil Chopra was duly credited when the film was screened on television this Sunday.

Raaz 3 collected 8.25 crore nett in its second weekend taking its ten day business to 60 crore nett. The film was hit at multiplexes due to the response to Barfi! but single screens did well. the film is doing very well especially in UP and Bihar. The drop is around 75% from the first weekend. Set to release on October 24th is Prakash Jha’s next hard hitting film Chakravyuh starring Arjun Rampal, Abhay Deol, Manoj Bajpayee, Esha Gupta, Anjali Patil and Om Puri. According to star Arjun Rampal,“His (Prakash Jha) films are not boring documentaries, yet they talk about relevant issues. They are the perfect combination of realism and commercialism. I didn’t know what the Naxal movement was about. We live in cities and that’s why we feel this is the whole world. We are ignorant about the Naxals. Prakash told me that 90 per cent of India lives in villages. There’s nothing happening to promote their growth. They are an easy target (for the Naxals), and they get influenced easily.”

Raaz 3 is the sixth biggest opening of the year. Ek Tha Tiger crossed 50 crore while films ranker 2-4 topped 40 and positions 5-7 topped 30 crore nett. The top opening weekends for 2012 are as follows.

Bipasha Basu, Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta’s RAAZ3 Biggest opening for a Bhatt film!

Vishesh Films has managed to deliver another hit with a relatively decent star cast, but a strong story and word of mouth publicity. With healthy box office collections, which are bigger than most movies released this year, Raaz 3 has come out as a clear winner.

Raaz 3 earned Rs 58 lakh for the paid previews on Thursday night, Rs 10.47 crores on Friday, Rs 11.10 crores on Saturday and Rs. 14.35 crores on Sunday – taking the total collections to Rs 36.5 crores in its opening weekend.

The horror movie based on the taboo subject of black magic has come out as Vishesh Film’s biggest opening ever – bigger than Murder 2 (36.5 cr) and Jannat 2 (35.55 cr). And with strong occupancy rates of more than 50 percent on both 3D and 2D screens, the film looks set to reach the Rs 50 crore mark!

Raaz 3 Paid Previews Response

Raaz 3 Does Well On Paid Previews
Raaz 3 got a good response at paid previews with collections being 80-85% at places. The response was best in circuits like CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan. The film had 1 or 2 shows at many multiplexes across the country. Raaz 3 will the biggest release for an Emraan Hashmi starrer as it releases on over 2000 screens. His previous biggest was Jannat 2 which was just shy of 2000 screens. The film also has advantage of being screened in 3D format so will be expected to beat the Jannat 2 opening numbers but a lot will depend on good the collections in the big cities as mass belts should score over Jannat 2 initially at least.
