Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania Is Steady In Second Weekend

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania had a good second weekend of around 13.25 taking its ten day total to around 64 crore nett. It was again North india leading the way with Delhi/UP grossing nearly 3.50 crore nett and East Punjab around 1.60 crore nett.

The drop from first weekend is just a little over 60%.  The film did fall in mass circuits like CPCI, Nizam and Bihar as these circuits are dominated by single screens and Hate Story 2 has scored very well in these circuits. The film will cross the 70 crore nett mark but it is likely that Kick will stop it going to 75 crore nett.

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is the fourth biggest hit of the year till date after Ek Villain, 2 States, Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty.

Hate Story 2 Has Good First Weekend

Hate Story 2 did well in its first weekend as it grossed a little over 14 crore nett. The film always had a chance of doing well at single screens but it is the multiplex business which is better than expected and helped to a good first weekend total.

The weekend business is as follows.
Friday - 4,85,00,000
Saturday 4,30,00,000
Sunday 5,00,00,000
TOTAL 14,15,00,000

The film did not grow much on Sunday as it had nothing for the families. The Sunday collections were similar to day one. The film would have probably emerge a hit if it was not for the release of Kick with collections of 30 crore nett but now it will have to settle for lower unless it surprises with good numbers after the release of Kick.

Top Second Week Collections 2013: RAANJHANAA FOURTH

Raanjhanaa had the fourth highest second week collections of the year. The 17.75 crore figure is a huge collection for the second week. The top second week collections for 2013 are as follows.

1. Yeh jawaani hai Deewani - 44,87,00,000
2. Race 2 - 20,02,00,000
3. Special 26 - 17,99,00,000
4. Raanjhanaa - 17,75,00,000 approx
5. Aashiqui 2 - 17,35,00,000
6. Kai Po Che - 11,82,00,000
7. Fukrey - 10,51,00,000
8. ABCD - Any Body Can Dance - 10,17,00,000
9. Jolly LLB -8,95,00,000

10. Chasme Baddoor - 8,86,00,000

Lootera First Day Business

Lootera had below the mark collections with first day likely to come out in the 4.25-4.50 crore nett region. the film fared better in the metros with mass belts having very low collections.

The collections are similar to Ranveer Singh's last film Ladies vs Ricky Bahl which was released 18 months back but Lootera is a much bigger film than that film.

The best collections have come in West Bengal as the film is set there but the Central belt has low collections and North also has not collected outside the Delhi/NCR region. The film will have to show very strong growth to come out with even reasonable weekend figures.

Policegiri First Day Business

Policegiri fared poorly on its first day with collections around the 2.50 crore nett mark. The collections at multiplexes were very bad especially the metros, Dehi city had ridiculously low collections.

The film did fare better in places like UP, Bihar, CPCI and Rajasthan as these areas collected better than Lootera which was very low in these areas. But Policegiri had to put up excellent numbers in these mass belts to get even reasonable day one figures as urban centres so low.

Policegiri has had such a low start that its impossible for the film to score at the box office unless there is some sort of miracle 300% jump on Saturday.

Lootera And Policegiri Start Slowly

Lootera and Policegiri both started slowly at the box office with Lootera recording collections of 30-35% at metro multiplexes but lower elsewhere while Policegiri was awful at multiplexes on its limited release though single screens recorded better collections of around 30%.

A start like this for Policegiri means its an uphill struggle because when a film in the action genre does not open it is a lost cause most of the time.

Lootera was never expected to open and will depend on what sort of growth it shows over the weekend but like Raanjhanaa it will have a lot of work to do as the budget is on the higher side looking at the type of film it is and a male lead whose previous films have not done that well at the box office which makes an it even harder for the film as far as opening morning collections are concerned.

Raanjhanaa Rock Steady In Week Two

Raanjhanaa was rock steady in week two collecting around 17 crore nett against the 35 crore nett approx in week one. The week on week drop is around 50%.

The film has now collected 52 crore nett in two weeks and should record good figures in week three despite competing with two new major releases. The film has done very good business all over expect East Punjab and West Bengal where collections are average.

Raanjhanaa has chances to do final business of around 65 crore nett and could even become the fourth highest grossing film of the year by beating the Special 26 total of 65 crore nett.

Ghanchakkar Has Low First Week

Ghanchakkar had low first week collections of around 28 crore nett. The collections came down rapidly over the weekdays. The second week has seen a huge reduction of shows and the film will not add much in week two.

The film put up low numbers in practically all the circuits with Mumbai grossing around 9.50 crore nett and Delhi/UP being 6.50 crore nett approx. Mysore which may have been expected to do better for this type of multiplex film also had disappointing figures of around 1.40 crore nett.

The single screen dominated areas had very low collections be it UP, CP Berar or Bihar.

Talaash box office prediction: Aamir Khan starrer expected to earn Rs 40 crore over the weekend

Talaash box office prediction: Aamir Khan starrer expected to earn Rs 40 crore over the weekend

Mr Perfectionist returns to the big screen in the lead role after three long years. Will this comeback be made special by housefull boards across the country? Here’s what the trade buzz says…
If our feathered friends and Talaash-loyalists are to be believed, the movie is gearing up for a bumper opening at the box office with “people thronging to the multiplexes to book the tickets in advance”. And why not! After all Aamir Khan did pull out all stops as far as marketing of Talaash is concerned. Remember the tie-up with Windows 8, those promotional episodes on C.I.D. and the buzz about Khan being interrogated by the cast of Star Plus’ Diya Aur Baati Hum?
But has it generated the desired buzz? “Talaash may not have generated extraordinary heat. But that may work in the favour of the film as it is a suspense drama. The intrigue value of the film has grown over the days because of the not-in-your-face promotional strategies which would do the suspense film good,” trade analyst Komal Nahta says. A peek into the booking window revealed that the tickets for the evening shows of certain multiplexes in Navi Mumbai are indeed sold out.
But what kind of buzz is the Aamir Khan-Rani Mukerji-Kareena Kapoor starrer creating in the trade arena? “The buzz is good and the weekend should earn approximately Rs 40 crores,” says trade analyst Amod Mehra.
And maybe that’s the reason why birdies chirp that the makers of Talaash were under tremendous pressure to open the ticket windows for the advance bookings on Sunday. And while bookings usually open on Monday for single screens and on Wednesday for multiplexes, advance bookings Talaashopened in all theatres (except the ones in Chennai) on Monday, four days prior to the movie’s release.
So has opening the advance booking sooner resulted in an increase in sale of tickets? Not really. The morning and afternoon shows show only 30-40 ‘booked’ seats in almost all theatres across Mumbai till now. And hardly any theatres are housefull. “Normally bookings open on Wednesday. And nowadays there are so many shows that to register a housefull in advance is a rarity,” Mehra said while explaining the reason behind those empty seats.
So looks like we’ll have to wait and watch if the promotional strategies employed for Talaash have indeed benefited the movie or not, right? Till then, you tell us readers: Do you think Talaash will cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office?

Life Of Pi Does Very Well In India

Life Of Pi Does Very Well In India

Life Of Pi has done very well in India especially from Monday onwards. The film opened well but was mainly due to the South Indian markets which recorded very good collections on day one but Monday saw the film hold up very strongly in Delhi/UP, East Punjab, Rajasthan, Bengal and CI. Many theatres across these areas had better collections on Monday than Friday. Some of these areas even managed overall better circuit figures on Monday than Friday. The film had the normal Monday drop in circuits like Mysore which had opened strongly on Friday.

The film will close the week with business in excess of 20 crore nett all over India and should go to around 30 crore nett plus for lifetime business despite the release of biggies like Talaash and Khiladi 786 over the next two weeks.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan SUPER HIT Son Of Sardaar HIT

Jab Tak Hai Jaan SUPER HIT Son Of Sardaar HIT

Life Of Pi opened had a good 50% opening at multiplexes across the big cities. the film will record healthy figures for a day one.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan has grossed 91 crore after ten days and has done well at multiplexes. As with films like Ra.One and Don 2 the final business will not be as much as SRK starrers should be doing in the domestic market especially as holiday releases but the difference here is that its not a big budget venture. Although it was one of the event films of 2012 the costs involved are more on the lines of a Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Student Of The Year rather than a Don 2 or Ek Tha Tiger. SUPER HIT

Son Of Sardaar has done well all over apart from West Bengal and South grossing 75 crore nett in ten days. Despite the restricted release for a such a film and competition from a Shahrukh Khan starrer the film has grossed well in most circuits. The poor release at single screens has cost the film as the film has done better at single screens and if the film had released at the better single screens, it would have put up higher numbers. HIT

Kajol’s silent war with Yash Raj Films

The real reason behind the 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'-'Son of Sardaar' fight

The real reason behind the 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'-'Son of Sardaar' fight

The truth can be told! It was not a Shah Rukh-Ajay contest. It was apparently not even a case of Yash Raj being a box-office bully. But the REAL reason for the ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan'-‘Son of Sardaar' war has its roots elsewhere!
Word has it that it all began with ‘
Bol Bachchan', when Ajay requested Yash Raj Films for a portion of the song ‘Kajra Re' to use in the film. Buzz is that YRF asked for five lakhs to lend this to him! And this upset his wife Kajol considering she has worked in their films, and done cameos for YRF free of charge.
Now
Apparently, Ajay agreed to pay the amount for the 90-second sequence of the song. But even as he was about to do so, YRF reportedly hiked the amount to 25lakhs! By now, Kajol was apparently furious and Ajay too was upset. A friend of Ajay says, "She was really upset but Ajay consoled her saying it was all part of the business."
Things only got worse when Kajol (heroine of one of YRF's biggest hits - ‘
Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge') was not invited to the premiere of ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan'! And yet the event was tom-tommed as sporting all the YRF heroines! This definitely upset Ajay who felt that Kajol had nothing to do with the box-office war of ‘JTHJ' and ‘SOS'. He firmly states, "Yes, Kajol was not seen at the premiere as she was not invited.”

Jab Tak Hai Jaan Set To Be Highest Grossing Film Ever In UAE

Jab Tak Hai Jaan
Set To Be Highest Grossing Film Ever In UAE

Jab Tak Hai Jaan is likely to be the highest grossing film ever in UAE as it is almost certain to surpass the $3.10 million of Three Idiots.

The film is already in second place after 11 days with business crossing the $2.80 million mark. My Name Is Khan was in second place before with $2.70 million.

The other two big overseas markets, United Kingdom and North America will stay well below record pace but UAE will set a new record showing that UAE is a growing market while United Kingdom and North America are stagnating markets.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan has finally made it to the Rs 100-crore club

Jab Tak Hai Jaan has finally made it to the Rs 100-crore club

Rs 101.26 crore in India!

Yash Chopra’s last film has finally made it to the Rs 100-crore club

Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Yash Chopra’s last directorial venture, continues to mint money. The romantic saga has earned Rs 101.26 crore at the domestic box office in 11 days since its release. The movie, featuring Shahrukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, released on 2,500 screens on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, November 13.

Made at a budget of Rs 50 crore, the movie has surpassed the Rs 100-crore mark in the Indian market, even though it had crossed the milestone figure in terms of worldwide collections within six days of hitting the screens.

Despite mixed reviews from all quarters, it had grossed over Rs 120 crore from all over the world in six days, and at the Indian box office, the movie had managed to get Rs 80.73 crore. The figures only seem to be on a rise. The buzz for the film was immense, given the fact that it is Chopra’s last directorial, a project he took up eight years after helming Veer-Zaara. It has also brought back Shahrukh in his classic romantic avatar, which his female fans love him for.
